VERTICAL GARDENS

so much more than just a pretty wall

The growing popularity of including a vertical garden within old and new property developments is not just a fashion fad, nor the inclusion of a feature that is merely aesthetically pleasing. These botanical walls are so much more than just a pretty façade, as they provide environmental benefits and improvements to living conditions, that also lead to significant cost savings.

It would be logical for an architect or landscaper to include an additional botanical feature within any building design, as they add value to a project of any size, from a private villa to a large commercial retail development. These green surfaces can add life and colour to a small insignificant wall of a family home, or form part of a garden rooftop to maximise space within an office building.

Every construction plan today has to follow certain regulations that will ensure the sustainability of the building in hand, and vertical gardens are an additional way of achieving these important goals. The positives of incorporating botanical features within any new or refurbished building, particularly in urban areas, are demonstrable.

They improve living conditions not only by cleaning the air of pollutants, toxins and dust, but they will also act as a protective barrier against noise and severe hot and cold weather temperatures. Monetary savings are made due to the reduction in use of electricity and other power sources, normally used to heat or cool an office, retail outlet or house.

There is, of course also, sound evidence to show that plants and flowers help to reduce anxiety, while nature also receives a helping hand as they provide natural environments for birds and insects.

Vertical gardens are good for our health, the environment and the monthly utilities budget, whilst at the same time affording a great deal of happiness are beautiful to behold and make our surrounding prettier and more enjoyable.
